An 8 Week Physical Acting and Mime Class
A progressive physical performance course focused on illusion, tension control, emotional clarity, and ensemble awareness. The course culminates in an invited showcase at the end of Week 8.
Week 1: Fixed Point and Tension Awareness
Students build body control through isolations and the difference between passive and active tension. Fixed point technique introduces how anchoring one part of the body in space creates believable illusion.
Week 2: Illusion Logic and Cause and Effect
Performers train their bodies to move with clear physical logic where every action creates a reaction. Push, pull, and chain reaction work strengthen grounded and convincing illusion.
Week 3: Slow Burns and Physical Escalation
Students practice committing to pacing and letting physical or emotional moments develop over time. The focus is on tension building, anticipation, and sustained audience engagement.
Week 4: Solo Object Manipulation
Participants interact with imagined objects using weight, texture, and resistance. Clarity and internal consistency are emphasized so props feel real and specific.
Week 5: Nonverbal Status and Power Shifts
Students explore hierarchy and relationship using posture, gaze, and spatial awareness. Power dynamics are communicated clearly without relying on words.
Week 6: Emotional Architecture
Performers examine how internal emotional truth shapes physical movement and space. Emotional shifts are used to transform environment and narrative.
Week 7: Silence Stillness and Comic Tension
Students use pause, restraint, and space as deliberate performance tools. Silence becomes a source of humor, tension, and meaning.
Week 8: Integration Jam and Showcase
Participants combine technique, illusion, emotion, and ensemble work into short solo or group pieces. The course concludes with an invited showcase performance for friends and guests.
